The Manly Cove West Urban Design and Placemaking seeks to redefine the public waterfront in front of the heritage-listed Manly Pavilion following the demolition of the Sealife aquarium building. The project aims to strengthen the character and activity of the foreshore, embedding Connecting with Country principles, whilst respecting the existing architectural heritage of the site.

Manly Pavilion Historical ContextThe natural environment is restored through sensitive interventions that protect intertidal and marine habitats. Through an in-depth analysis of the local patterns of use and other foreshore settings in Sydney, the urban design aims to create a safe and accessible environment for all users. Carefully planned zones of activity define spaces for walking, cycling, gathering, and outdoor dining, improving pedestrian flow and amenity of new and existing tenancies. On the outer perimeter, new opportunities for sitting at the water’s edge, enjoying harbour views, and engaging with the water are created, woven in with cultural storytelling that enrich the experience of the place.
