Currently under construction, Parklife Metro comprises a series of above-ground service buildings designed to enrich their urban settings and make a meaningful civic contribution. Developed in collaboration with Hassell and Sydney Metro, the project demonstrates how large infrastructure elements, often overlooked in the public realm, can be thoughtfully considered. The result is a family of simple yet distinctive buildings that serve as quiet civic landmarks and integrate into the urban fabric.

The designs are built on a modular kit-of-parts that standardises key elements that enable consistency in architectural language and efficiency in delivery, while allowing the flexibility to adapt between different sites. Drawing from the industrial heritage of the city’s rail architecture, the buildings compose robust structures with carefully scaled façade elements and details to create a respectful civic presence. Solid brick and precast concrete at street level contrast with lightweight perforated screens and metal crowns that wrap the upper mass. Articulated façades, recessed planes, and varied tiering reduce scale, soften bulk, and create a sympathetic urban outcome.

Together, the buildings strengthen the public experience of the metro network, demonstrating how essential infrastructure can be delivered with consistency, adaptability, and respect for place.
