The Tweed Mall Masterplan on Bundjalung Country reimagines a large 1970s shopping mall as part of a denser urban future for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions. With extraordinary natural assets on its doorstep, the project considers how renewal in Tweed can support a more connected, vibrant and liveable town centre.
Developed in close collaboration with landscape architects Turf Design Studio for our client Elanor Investors Group, the masterplan brings together living, working, retail and public life around a green public heart. The ambition is to create a diverse and thriving destination for Tweed, one that responds to growth while strengthening place quality, landscape character and everyday experience.
Over three years, the project has moved through an extensive approvals process involving State Agencies, Tweed Shire Council’s Design Review Panel, supported by the NSW Government Architect design review process, and the Joint Regional Planning Panel. This has offered valuable insight into the delivery of complex urban renewal projects in New South Wales, and into the role thoughtful collaboration can play in shaping better long-term outcomes.
The project reflects a broader interest in how existing commercial sites can evolve to support more generous and resilient forms of urban life, opening up new possibilities for housing, landscape and community in rapidly changing regional centres.
